One of the classes I’m taking this semester at North Greenville University is Painting I, where we’re painting still lifes in oil. In our first project we were learning about value by painting white objects in front of a black background. The painting of the shapes was the one I worked on in class, and the bird one I did out of class. This is the first time I’ve used oil paint. I’m really enjoying it.

As the majority of my drawings are done from photographs, I’ve decided to draw a still life for my portfolio. I mainly drew it for an art scholarship. This is to show some of my work which I did from life. Eventhough drawing people is my passion, I think this picture turned out pretty well knowing that I don’t do still lifes very much. It’s good for me to draw things I normally don’t draw because it teaches me knew concepts and techniques in drawing which I wouldn’t otherwise learn by doing people.
This is a portrait I did of my friend for her birthday. I knew her from my church when I lived in Switzerland.
Best wishes to you, my friend!
